"LEFKAS", one of the unspoilt IONIAN ISLANDS,

This unspoilt,by commercial tourism,island is accessible from the mainland of Greece, via a "Floating Swing Bridge" of only 50 meters in length.Making it within easy reach of all of the Eastern and Northern European conitinents.

Its main charm is primerily due to its saviour of Old Style Greece,which appeals to the mainstream of tourists.Who wish to experience the way the Islanders have lived for many years.It also has managed to control the influx of Commercial tourism, by strict control on developement ie. no highrise large hotel complexes etc.

When touring around this unspoilt island it is hard to imagine at times that you are on a Greek Island at all, with its Lush green Landscape made up of Olive Trees and Cyprus Pines.The breathtaking scenary is made up of dramatic mountains and spectacular beaches all intertwined with timeless Greek Villages.

The main town on the island is Lefkas Town(Lefkada, as the lefkadians know it) which appears to be extremely busy no matter what time of the year, with the local Fresh Fish,vegetable and meat shops doing a roaring trade, especially in the mornings when all the locals flock in to town for thier daily shop for Local produce.If you take a day trip up to Lefkas Town make sure to avoid between the hours of 2.00-5.00hrs, that is if you wish to catch most of the shops open, as the locals still enjoy thier afternoon rest.The main street lined with cosmapolitan coffee bars and Tavernas does not appear to close in the afternoon at all, so if you only wish to stroll around the tiny streets and absorbe the atmosphere of this interesting town, then this time in the afternoon is perhaps a good time to visit.

The  many beaches that are dotted all around the island are contrasting from one side of the island to the other.The east coast beaches are mostly made up of Peables, whilst the west coast beaches are mostly made up of Sand.Thier are more popular beaches than others on the island, which are visited by the tourist, and mainly in July and August, but for all different reasons ie,

Vassiliki,for two reasons,its shallow sandy beach( at Ponti end) and its World renowned Windsurfing activities.

Potro Katsiki,for its spectacular scenary of golden sand,crystal blue sea and its towering white cliff Backdrop. 

Rouda Bay,for its calm crystal blue water, with towering hills on both sides, this bay is ideal for snorkelling,peable type beach.

Kalamitsi,for its coarse sand beach,spectacular large rocks and surfbreaking sea,an ideal small beach, for enjoying the surf breaking against the large rocks dotted about.

The main, or should i say, the biggest resort on the island is Nidri, made up of many hotels, appartments and shops along its one main street and harbour front.A great place for the tourist looking for a busy holiday.A superb harbour fronts this resort with many Daily Island Tour Boats ready for your business,a very long but narrow stretch of beach, mainly small peables,plenty of places to eat and drink and ideal place to hire a boat for the day and visit the closeby Onassis Island of Scorpios.

To access LEFKAS island,freequent Charter Flights operate from the UK between beginning of May and the end of October,from Airports such as Manchester and Gatwick.The flights are direct into Preveza Airport(about 1.15hrs from our villas) taking approximately between 3-3.5hrs from the UK.The airport is based on the mainland of Greece so you access Lefkas Island via the floating swing bridge i mentioned earlier.However you can access the island all year round, with a  Schedule Flight from the UK to Athens then a Flight from Athens to Preveza, OR a flight from the UK to Athens then onto Lefkas via your Hire Car(about 5hrs drive or by coach 5hrs.) OR via road from anywhere in Europe.
